About the program
Program objectives
The Medical Ultrasound Technology program trains students to become health professionals called upon to perform various types of ultrasound examinations. Based on a prescription, these technologists use an ultrasound device to conduct a thorough investigation according to a patient’s condition and the context with a view to gathering observations of optimal images and videos that radiologists and other medical specialists can use to make a diagnosis or decide on a treatment plan. They can also participate in other types of examinations such as medical procedures that use ultrasound (biopsies, for example).
Medical ultrasound technologists can work in the following sub-sectors of medical ultrasound technology: abdominal-pelvic and surface, obstetrical, musculo-skeletal, cardiac and breast ultrasound. In carrying out their profession, medical ultrasound technologists can be called upon to provide training to technologists in their field of expertise and to other health professionals. They might also be required to collaborate on or lead research work in the field of ultrasound technology.
Good vision and manual dexterity is required.
