On completion of this course, you will be able to work in a variety of fields, including advertising, publishing, animated films, video games, multimedia, packaging and more. You will be able to design and draw characters, locations and props, using both traditional drawing techniques and digital tools.

Program objectives
This program prepares students to work as professional illustrators in various areas of the industry such as advertising, magazine and book editorials, publishing, animation, video games, concept art, multimedia, packaging, manufacturing, film, theatre sets, engineering, architecture, fashion and textiles.
Illustrators are visual artists who work in the communications sector, either for a company or as freelancers. They are often entrepreneurs who start their own businesses, who may hire or partner with other illustrators and collaborators.
Graduates of this program are fluent in use of current digital media and traditional illustration skills.
Students in this program must develop their creativity, visual perception and a strong work ethic. They study movement and master production tools and techniques, both for traditional and digital illustration with a view to creating and producing the various elements of an animated production and integrating these elements into a cohesive finished product.
Training and practice in the program will ensure that graduates:
Have a strong base in drawing for various illustration applications
Can generate and use innovative ideas
Explore different types of visual communication design
Are exposed to both traditional and digital illustration tools and techniques and are current with software applications
Are aware of the different pipelines serviced by illustrators
Are familiar with the needs of managing a small illustration business and the importance of networking
Are conscious of the need to keep abreast of illustration and industry trends

The ability to balance personal creativity with production requirements
Interest in art and traditional drawing

An open mind and a solid general culture

Condition of admission
Before applying to a program leading to a Diploma of College Studies (DCS), applicants who studied in Québec must meet the following three requirements:
The applicant must have a Secondary School Diploma and be in one of the following situations:
The applicant has a Secondary School Diploma (SSD)*
NOTE: a SSD holder that has not passed the following courses may be required to complete remedial courses:
Secondary 5 Language of Instruction
Secondary 5 Second Language
Secondary 4 Mathematics
Secondary 4 Science and Technology or Secondary 4 Applied Science and Technology or Secondary 4 Physical Science
Secondary 4 History and Citizenship Education or Secondary 4 History of Quebec and Canada
The applicant holds a Diploma of Vocational Studies (DVS) and has successfully completed the following subjects*:
Secondary 5 Language of Instruction
Secondary 5 Second Language
Secondary 4 Mathematics
The applicant has training deemed equivalent by the College.
The applicant has training and experience deemed sufficient by the College and has interrupted full time studies for at least 24 months.
The applicant satisfies, if applicable, the special conditions for admission established by the Minister which specify the program prerequisites*.
The applicant satisfies, if applicable, any special conditions for admission established by the College for each of its programs.
*If the applicant is enrolled in school and completing his or her secondary studies at the time of application, the grades sent by the school must demonstrate that the applicant is passing in all the courses required to complete the SSD and required to fulfill the admission requirements.
