Electrical Engineering Technology

This program trains technologists to troubleshoot, maintain, install and commission control system equipment in a variety of processing sectors: metals, forestry, energy, chemicals, plastics, pharmaceuticals, food, equipment manufacturing, etc.

About the program

Program objective
This program trains individuals to become electrical engineering technicians in the areas of automation and control. These technicians use their expertise in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors as well as in research laboratories and repair shops. They also work in the areas of primary metal processing, forestry and paper, chemistry, plastics, pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, the manufacturing of transportation equipment or electrical material, printing, etc. They can also be found in the services sector, working in such specialties as energy distribution (gas and electricity) and consulting-engineering.

The main tasks carried out by these technologists are troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, installation and start-up of instruments in control systems. In collaboration with engineers, they also participate in the design or modification of automated systems or electrical installations. Lastly, they are mandated with purchasing material within the limits of an allocated budget.

Industrial electrical engineering technologists play a critical role in the event of procedural breakdowns in order to identify, analyze and diagnose operating problems with industrial systems and equipment. They are responsible for quickly restoring defective instruments such as sensors and conditioners, automatic devices and controllers, motors, drive systems and electrical distribution systems as well as broken-down mechanical elements such as valves, pneumatic and hydraulic cylinders, etc.

Their technological environment is made up of distributed and computerized systems as well as industrial programmable control equipment such as measuring instruments, captors, programmable controllers, electronic controllers, control networks, valves, speed controllers, etc. Note, however, that this particular environment is constantly changing and evolving.

This program replaces 243.C0 Industrial Electronics.
