Music
This pre-university program integrates the components of general education with specific training in music. You will learn to integrate the fundamental elements of musical language, interpret works and explore the world of music from a variety of angles.
About the program
This pre-university program is intended to give students a balanced education that includes a general education component and a component specific to music. This will enable them to pursue university studies in this field.
Goals of the program
Integrate the knowledge and skills they have acquired during their college education
Integrate the basic elements of musical language
Demonstrate artistic flair in the performance of musical works
Explore various aspects of the world of music
Develop the qualities necessary for artistic development
Acquire attitudes that favour interaction in musical activities
Work autonomously and efficiently
Each Cégep determines the ways in which the educational aims, common competencies, goals, objectives and standards are implemented. Each discipline chosen by the educational institution as being part of this program can use its own vocabulary and logic. Each course may contribute to the full or partial achievement of the program goals. The important thing is that all of these elements are taken into consideration in one or more courses and that they become specific focuses of teaching and learning, since they have been recognized as essential to the pursuit of university studies in music and that the Diploma of College Studies (DEC) attests that these goals have been met.
This four-semester Music program provides access to the 551.A0 Professional Music and Song Techniques college program. Some Cégeps also include training in popular instruments as part of the program 501.A0 (drums, electric bass guitar or jazz guitar, keyboards, popular song, etc.). Contact Cégeps directly for more information.
