Dance
This program offers practical and theoretical training in contemporary dance. It will help you master intermediate-level technical skills and develop your artistic sensibility and critical sense through interpretative and creative activities.
About the program
This pre-university program is based on a humanistic approach. Focused on personal development, it provides students with training in body mechanics that is functional, up-to-date and versatile as well as theoretical training that favours the acquisition of intellectual skills required to study movement and dance as art forms.
The program focuses on contemporary dance as a result of new avenues in the art of movement. It targets both expression and representation and is based on a constantly evolving creative process that takes into consideration the fact that dancers must attain the intermediate level required to be admitted into university programs.
Intermediate-level dancers have the skills required to learn how to precisely, easily and effectively perform technical movements and dance sequences of medium difficulty and meet moderate physical requirements. Reaching an intermediary level means that students must master physical movement, develop artistic sensibility and a critical mind, and acquire basic knowledge of the history of dance.
The general goals of the program as are follows:
Foster good physical practices;
Master intermediate technical abilities in contemporary dance;
Assimilate and transfer knowledge and motor skills to performance and creation activities;
Demonstrate the ability to analyze and summarize;
Determine one’s artistic goals among existing contemporary dance movements;
Adopt attitudes and behaviours that foster artistic and personal development;
Use appropriate technologies to process information.
